Pavacho Sano/Bread Sheera

Pavacho Sano/Bread Sheera
 Pavacho sano is typically amde of leftover bread. It is served during breakfast with tea. It can be served at any time.
10-12 bread slices
1 medium size onion chopped
3 green chilies
1 tsp of sugar
4-5 curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp jeera/cumin (optional)
a pinch of hing
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
 1 tsp oil
2 tbsp chopped coriander/cilantro,
2 tbsp grated coconut
salt to taste


  • Make small pieces of the bread slices with hand or cut into cubes with a knife.
  • Chop the onions, green chilies and coriander.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, once they splutter add jeera/cumin, curry leaves and asafoetida.
  • Add onions and fry until they become pinkish.
  • Add turmeric powder followed by bread pieces, sugar and salt.
  • Keep tossing for sometime or until all the pieces are properly coated with the oil. 
  • Cover the pan, and let cook for 5 minutes. 
  • Remove the lid and mix.
  • Add the grated coconut and chopped cilantro. Mix well. Cover and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • You can also add chopped tomatoes, green peas or potatoes for variation.
